Michael Keaton to Reprise Iconic Striped Suit Look in Beetlejuice 2

In the highly anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice is set to make a memorable return, sporting his signature striped suit, just as he did in the original film.

Currently, production on Beetlejuice 2 has been temporarily halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, and no official images of Michael Keaton's reprisal of the titular role have been unveiled. While fans eagerly anticipated Keaton's return in his ghostly persona, there was some uncertainty about whether Beetlejuice would receive a fresh wardrobe for the sequel. However, costume designer Colleen Atwood has dispelled any doubts in an interview with Comicbook.com, confirming that Beetlejuice will indeed don his classic striped suit once more. She tantalizingly hinted that this wouldn't be the character's only attire, leaving room for intrigue.

"Atwood explained, 'Well Beetlejuice has to have a striped suit,'" she stated. "'It's like doing Alice in Wonderland needs a blue dress. How long they wear it is another thing. But Beetlejuice, that is the quintessential Beetlejuice. Strangely, it was Michael; he thinks the burgundy tux is the quintessential Beetlejuice, not the striped suit. But the world happens to disagree with him, so it's a funny thing.'"

Director Tim Burton has also shared insights into Keaton's reprisal of the role, emphasizing that Beetlejuice remains true to his original form. This is largely due to Keaton's exceptional performance, despite initial reservations about returning to the character. Burton revealed to the British Film Institute, "He was the same way. He didn’t want to do it [initially] – he had no necessarily burning desire, but I have to say, it was the most fun. It reminded me of back in the old days, this unhinged thing unleashed on the set. I was quite shocked at how easy it was for him to kick it back into it. It was like demon possession."

Beetlejuice 2 boasts a screenplay penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with a story by Seth Grahame-Smith. Returning alongside Keaton are Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder, with a fresh cast including Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Belluci, and Justin Theroux.

Following the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Beetlejuice 2 has just a couple of days of filming remaining and is slated for release on September 6, 2024.
